In past years, late December meant finals and the end of the semester at East High. This year, the delayed start to the 20-21 school year altered the winter schedule so that finals would happen in late January, or after break. This allows time to study for finals, but also gives teachers the opportunity to assign work over break. Another concern is that second semester will be shorter, possibly rushing students and cutting the year even shorter for seniors.

I think it’s a smart idea to push back finals until January mainly because all of my core classes are pretty rushed because of the late start and online learning. It’s really nice that students get to enjoy break without having to stress over finals the week before, along with being able to turn in missing work if need be. I am somewhat concerned in how this will affect the second semester schedule and if it will be even more rushed.

As the semester comes to an end the workload seems overwhelming and often becomes frustrating. As break approaches I am hoping the pressure won't be too much because honestly a break is really necessary! I do look forward to the next semester because the format we have now is very easy to manage and I look forward to improving my communication skills so I can do a bit better and set a more solid path for myself. Finally, this year is hectic for everyone so I hope we can take it a bit easier and figure things out while working together.
