East SkillsUSA Team Medals at State Contest

SkillsUSA is an organization dedicated to preparing students for technical, skilled, and service careers.

East High students Diego Leal, Damien Terrell, Cesar Saludes, and Manuel Silva won silver medals in the Teamworks Competition at the SkillsUSA Kansas State Tournament in Hutchinson Friday, April 29.

For the competition, the team spent two and a half days building a partial shed that included wood and metal framing, electrical, plumbing, and siding components.

SkillsUSA is a program designed to help students practice skills that they can use beyond the classroom and into the workforce.

"These four guys worked hard for two and a half days in the Teamworks Competition and learned a ton in the process. I'm definitely proud of them for their problem solving skills and their ability to learn and build on the fly," East SkillsUSA sponsor Aaron Haselwood said. "No doubt these four will be successful in their future endeavors!"
