Georgia State Senator Results Effect on America
On Wednesday, Jan. 6, Democrats Rapahel Warnock and Jon Ossoff won the GA state Senate seats. With the addition of these two Democrats, there will now be a 50-50 split in the Senate, but Vice President Kamala Harris will be the tie-breaker in any necessary situations, ultimately giving Democrats control.
This win for Democrats in Georgia is causing a political transformation due to Georgia primarily choosing Republican senators for multiple years. For President-elect Joe Biden, this will make it easier for him to go through with what he has on his agenda.
Biden won Georgia as a state in the Presidential election, which had also not happened for many years by a Democrat. The political shift is noticeable and for the Democrats that have been fighting, it is rewarding.
The election of Warnock was historical for Georgia, as he is the first African-American elected Senator. Warnock is calling his victory the road to “new Georgia”. His win symbolizes movement to more political equality and voice within the United States government.
Black voters and faith leaders in Georgia are rejoicing at the win. The black community is feeling a sense of pride and are not seeing change yet, but this gives them hope that there is progress being made.
Even with the Capitol riot that occurred around the same time that Warnock was elected, this win for him spoke volumes. Many citizens in Georgia are proud that even though there might be turmoil in one part of the country, there is still a part of the country that is coming together to make change.
Biden congratulated Warnock on his win, agreeing that the people of Georgia sent a message with their voting on what they wanted. The result from the Senate elections gave a signal to the nation's leaders that there was a demand for immediate action.
With the need for peace after the riot, Biden is willing to start making change happen. He is thankful to Stacey Abrams, who has helped build a Democratic base in Georgia for the last decade and helped to increase the voting percentage of multiple different races.
The Georgia senate race made history in multiple ways and helped set America in a direction of change and reform. With a Democratic president being inaugurated in a few weeks and a shift of power in the senate, there is bound to be change within the country as a whole.
