Keeping Up With the Kardashians (KUWTK) is a reality show that has been airing since October 14, 2007; 14 years and 19 seasons. It was announced on September 8 that the show will be coming to an end, with season 20 being it's finale. This has devastated fans because they will no longer partake in the Kardashian’s daily life and not have any more Kardashian sayings to quote.
Before the family became a social media sensation, they were popular because of their late father’s case defending O.J. Simpson. Rob Kardashian defended his friend Simpson, who was suspected of the murder of his wife and her friend.
Kim Kardashian’s sudden rise to fame contributed a lot to the family’s popularity. As the show started to gain popularity, the family was able to use the platform to promote their businesses and gain more popularity on social media.
Keeping Up With the Kardashians has influenced the entertainment industry in multiple aspects ranging from popularizing reality shows, to setting unrealistic beauty standards.The end to this show will reduce the impact of an unrealistic lifestyle but also lose the way it had been a source of escapism for some individuals.
Although the actual reason for the end of the successful show has not been determined, there are a few theories.
It is clear that Kim needs a break from the attention that has recently been given to her and Kanye West. This recent spotlight has been caused by Kanye announcing he was running for president. He has also been struggling with bipolar disorder.
Some believe that the show is coming to an end because the network that KUWTK is signed to does not have enough money to fulfill the salary that the “momager” Kris Jenner is requesting.
The Kardashian’s do not rely on their show to promote themselves anymore since they have garnered a lot of social media attention with millions of followers. A crazy theory has recently brought up that the show is ending so that Tik Tok star Addison Rae could have her own reality show.
Although we may not know the true reason for the show's ending, we could all agree that this is an end to a long era.
